One of the First Settlers of Reno
County Passes away Today at His Home in This City
Shortly
before 3 o’clock this afternoon Michel Meyer breathed his last, surrounded by
the members of his family at their home on East Sherman Street. Mr. Meyers or
Father Meyer, as he was better known, was born in France, October 6, 1812.
Accompanied by his wife and son Eugene they moved to America in 1837, first
living in New Orleans, and afterwards moving to Atchison, Kansas, where his
only daughter, Mrs. S. F. Hutton was born.
In April
1873, Father Meyer moved to Hutchinson and has since resided here, loved and
respected by all who knew him. For the past five or six years he has been very
feeble and his last hours he was unconscious. His death was a peaceful one. He
leaves a wife and son and daughter E. L. Meyer and Mrs. S. F. Hutton.
The
funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. from the residence at No. 212 Sherman Street
East.
