One of the First Settlers of Reno County Passes away Today at His Home in This City
Shortly before 3 o’clock this afternoon Michel Meyer breathed his last, surrounded by the members of his family at their home on East Sherman Street. Mr. Meyers or Father Meyer, as he was better known, was born in France, October 6, 1812. Accompanied by his wife and son Eugene they moved to America in 1837, first living in New Orleans, and afterwards moving to Atchison, Kansas, where his only daughter, Mrs. S. F. Hutton was born.
In April 1873, Father Meyer moved to Hutchinson and has since resided here, loved and respected by all who knew him. For the past five or six years he has been very feeble and his last hours he was unconscious. His death was a peaceful one. He leaves a wife and son and daughter E. L. Meyer and Mrs. S. F. Hutton.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. from the residence at No. 212 Sherman Street East.
